Why is it that the new system seems to fail quite regularly?
Seems each time it is a different reason too?
Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

The item you are trying to edit cannot be retrieved from a "primary US node".

Potential reasons for problem:

a temporary item location failure
the identifier supplied may be invalid or references a removed resource
the item may be in the process of being edited

Hi,

The server this item is on, ia311502, looks like it's having some trouble. Usually this is a transitory thing, so try to continue the process again tomorrow. If it's still failing then, let us know. Thanks,

Alexis

OK now it is happening with another upload....!!!!
Only this time It let me input metadata but keeps getting stuck in a loop when I click on submit...it keeps going back to the Pick a Collection page....& when I choose etree it dumps me back to the metadata edit page....where I click on the submit & etc.....

OK it's happening again with a 3rd upload!!!!
Same thing as this last one!!!!
What's Up with that?
Obviously this new system is full of bugs....
Tell me what was really wrong with the old one?
It seemed to work fine as far as I was concerned!!!

No it is still stuck in upload limbo....
seems like every third or forth show I upload has problems....different everytime....
Never had that with the old system....
When I try to add it to the etree collection I Still get the same error message no matter how many tries:

Why is this a problem? & What can I do about.... beside go thru the time consuming tasks of reuploading using a different name & jumping thru all those new hoops that supposedly make it quicker? for who?

Hi,

Yes, a lot of people are having issues right now. I'm sure you've seen it being discussed in other threads as well, but we're in the middle of moving thousands of servers into a new datacenter. It's an incredibly complicated process, and we're going to be seeing problems like this for the next day or two.

The problem you're seeing isn't because of the "new" upload process (which is only new for etree), it's because we're moving all the machines that our items live on. Thanks for your patience.

Alexis

As per this post from a couple of days ago (is there a standardized prominent place for posting known service issues like this the I don't know about)?

Hi, There's a notification about the datacenter move in the announcements section of the front page (top left corner). But for smaller stuff, we usually just post to the forums. If you look at the forum listed at the bottom of the front page, it shows posts from all of the forums aggregated in one place. And of course you can always search the forums! Thanks, Alexis

When I just tried it now, it looked like it was ready for you to pick a collection. Try again after the temporary failure?

Perhaps it's a matter of stuff like this recently:
